Project location: Fifth Avenue, New York, NY · Project context: 2022 · Prepared by POPUP from the project archive in October 2026.
Digital work gained a walk-in home at 510 Fifth Avenue. Web3 NYC Gallery placed display walls at the center of the space, connecting digital art and collecting with a gallery visitors could enter from the street.
How can a physical gallery help visitors explore digital art?
Give digital creators and collectors a physical presence on Fifth Avenue, while making the work approachable to visitors walking in from the street.
POPUP designed and built the gallery, co-produced its opening and supported ongoing operations. A large-scale display wall made digital works central to the space.
Give digital work a physical setting
Web3 NYC Gallery brought digital art and collecting to a walk-in Fifth Avenue space. POPUP designed and built the gallery, co-produced the opening and supported ongoing operations. A large-scale display wall made digital work central to the environment, giving visitors a physical place to encounter it.
Connect the street with the exhibition
The gallery’s address at 510 Fifth Avenue made arrival part of the idea. Someone could enter a setting devoted to digital works from a familiar city street. For another gallery brief, the threshold deserves attention: what can a passerby understand, and how does the room help a new visitor orient themselves once inside?
Design for exhibitions after the opening
The gallery opened in June 2022 and later hosted exhibitions, including NYU Tisch’s ArtLabb launch that October. That history makes ongoing use part of the project’s context. In planning a similar environment, consider how displays change, how visitors spend time with the work and how the operating team supports new programming.
The planning lesson
Think about viewing conditions as well as the display hardware. Visitors need a way to orient themselves, spend time with work and understand the setting. Ongoing exhibition use belongs in the operating plan alongside the initial design and opening.
